This tune is also widespread in Norway, with a number of regional variations and lyrics. A number of regions consider this tune representative of their regional tradition. To be so deeply embedded in the music of so many regions in Scandinavia, this must be an old tune that traveled far in its day!
The gods are smiled at me when I found your channel. I have an addiction to culture, folksongs and folklore. Specially European.
It is heartwarming to see how you love your culture and tunes. We must protect that at any cost, in my understanding this is how we are living through life and death. Our language and culture is the most important thing to preserve.
I would listen to your singing untill the sky starts falling. My heart is full of joy, when I watching your videos.
Thank you Emelie, you restored my faith in humanity.
I love Gjallerhorn! So glad I found your channel. Greetings from California!
your version is mystical
2:09 😍😍😍😍
OMG ... so beautiful!
Thank you for sharing your singing , and your playing too! I love the sound of the nyckelharpa.
Beautiful in every way!
Fall in love in 5 minutes for u and u instrument..It s a record!😍
Lovely.
Loved this!
Beautiful waltz, indeed! Thanks for sharing!
Friendly greetings,
Thomas
So beautiful! I love this channel.
How come I rarely hear you sing? You have such an amazing voice.
Thank you ! I am quite shy with my voice. I love to sing (I sing all the time at home and at work) (I work in agriculture so it's not like I would disturb people in a room ^^) but my voice is quite unstable and I never practiced it "seriously" so I feel I'm not at all at a similar level with it than with fiddle and nyckelharpa. Working on it though.
@@EmelieWaldken Well you definitely sound a lot better than I do. My dad's music teacher, when he was in high school, told him that he would pass the class with a C if he promised to never sing again. That shows the musical talent in my family. I couldn't clap to a church choir without messing it up.
fantastic sound Emelie! And lovely tune.Thank you!
Hello! Someone told me that you refers to me in this video. I really like your version too! You give the tune the right waltz feeling! I'm looking forward to watch more of your videos. /Miranda
Yes I did because I like a lot the version you recorded :) Thanks a lot for the compliment !
Also, I think it's fair to say you both have a dialect.
kamu adalah pahlawanku 🌹🎻

LOVELY VOICE
Over Fathoms Deep!! Johnlocked ❤️
I really love it ! Keep going like that ! 😊
nice
I can't decide which I love more, your lovely playing or your beautiful singing. 🎉
Mostly. I love your videos! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much =)
Nice.
Thank you that’s fantastic
On adore!
I think this tune might go into my tune book..! I like it! :)
You'd better put it into your tunebook indeed, I'd love to play it with you - plus I have a very nice second voice to it ;)
Ive got a proposition for you : could you do videos where you explain things and others with only the music ? 😃
Hej Emelie! When I met this tune probably a music vid Siljan people were dancing langdance with it.
Hej ! I didn't know it could be a långdans too, thanks for the info :)
Vackert
You make me dance! Thank you for this playing and singing of such a beautiful and sweet song, and also thank you for the link to Miranda Samuelsson's beautiful singing version!
Also I'm curious about the pronunciation of "Öland" compared to "Åland".
Thank you very much !
Öland starts with a sound like the [u] in "bus" or "ahum" in english, more or less. Aaland (sorry, can't type nor copy-paste the a-bubble today, computer is stupid) begins with a very deep and round [o], a bit like "Oowh". Kinda.
Love it! I'm going to give this a try on the harp ;)
It should sound super lovely on harp ! Looking forward to meet you again and play that tune (and others) :)
Hello Emilie! If it strikes your fancy I would love it you could make more videos of you performing all these little tunes, you make some of my favorite renditions of them but I can only listen to them in the middle of tutorials, I really wish you had proper recordings of them because they're so good :') Lovely informative tutorial as always!
Thanks for the nice message ! I've been thinking about making more recordings again, I miss it too actually ! I've just had waaaay too much happening in my life to be able to take anymore focus for the past months. But it's coming !
You may already explain this on a different video, but how did you first meet the nyckelharpa, and was it a long time ago?
Around 11 years ago, I was very interested in learning to play it (had heard & seen it in a few different folk bands) and a friend of mine had just started doing so, she invited me over to a week-end course and I got my first 'harpa into my arms...
That's Very Nice singing!!! What is the name of the band You mention in the beggining ?
Thanks ! I mentionned Gjallarhorn, which is my favourite band.
@@EmelieWaldken Thank you!! You should record an album!!!!!
@@Mr25ir I have ;) Two albums, with my previous duo Knep : knep.weebly.com/shop.html
Not a guess but I am hoping for more Halling tunes!
There will be some more for sure ;) but that's not the subject of the coming Scandi Folk Nerd video. Try again !
what was the name of the band you said was your favorite?
could u do a long version in the fast tempo mode please
Emilie, this is a wonderful tune. I would love to play it with guitar and sing it along. Can you help me with the chords?
Hej Emelie, thanks for the advice on bows earlier =) . I've been using the Gewa bow and it's a lot better!
One thing still has me stumped and that's positioning. Holding the nyckelharpa in a comfortable position seems to be an arcane art, with many people having their own ideas about it. Standing up I've been experimenting with Didier Francois' positioning as opposed to the traditional one which was causing issues with my right shoulder.
One thing that bothers me when sitting down is reaching the highest keys. How do you reach those when you're sitting like in this video? My leg always seems to be in the way!
Hej.
where did you buy this amazing map? :D
I made it ;) It's embroidered, cotton thread on cotton fabric, dyed with coffee. It's not fully finished yet ^^ I was so confused with all the regions when I went to Sweden for the first time that I decided to make a map of Sweden. Then I added Norway and then Danemark and now I'm on the baltic countries ^^
Who can send me the scales of these music 😥😥😓☹️😢
I give them to my Patrons on Patron :) www.patreon.com/emeliewaldken
this version with nickelharpa please 🙏🙏🙏
Your brain is stronger than your arms.
Some people also got special strong mucles and tendons
What is her favourite band? Can someone write it out for me?
Answered several times in the comments already ;)
My favourite band is Gjallarhorn (well, was, as it doesn't exist anymore, bwaaaah)
This is real music.
You singing...
What is that intsrument?
nyckelharpa, swedish traditional folk instrument
@@EmelieWaldken where is it played? I thought only old generations play so unknown instruments.
Mostly in Sweden but there are players a bit all over the world, mostly in Europe and North America. Many young people play nyckelharpa nowadays !
Tack!
Ow how thin your arms are... Like a thing from Johan Bauer. Can they lift anything ?
Well believe it or not but I work outdoors and physically (on a farm). I've always been very thin, it's my nature. My entire family is pretty much like that. I do need to train my strength to avoid overloading my tendons and to manage with things I want to do, but training is good for everyone anyways !
