I don't know if it's me just being picky, but I hate it when people write Xmas on cards, in shop windows, and even on this site!
I am not overly religious, but people are "X-ing" out the true meaning of this time of year.
With all the hot debates about peoples different religions and views, thing like this massive Christian celebration really does p*ss me off.

The meaning of this time of year...

You mean putting yourself into major debt just to try to prove something. As that is what most people do.

Presents they can't afford so charge them.
Big party that also costs.
Over doing the lights and getting a massive electric bill.
Etc.

Because these are the things that Christmas has become. So I'd worry a little more about that than what it's called personally Andy.

Christmas or Xmas, not bothered really.

The only time I think it is right to use Xmas is when you are using AIM. Otherwise it should be Christmas.

I love Christmas and I hate xmas.
Sometimes I write xmas, too if Im too lazy, but actually I think it looks ugly.

Pop culture that stuck decades ago. I don't like Xmas, but think 24/7, and how are U are even worse. I don't like the destruction of the language because people can't write or spell.

There is no true meaning to this holiday anymore. It has just become another Hallmark holiday. If you change the name of it to Santa Day, the same thing would happen every year. No one actually cares about the meaning, because there isn't one.

With the way our language has been going to the shitter, it seems that our world is slowly morphing into one big text message.

I hate when people claim that typing/writing something like "good 4 u" is A LOT quicker than "good for you", when it might be saving them .0058357 seconds.

i use christmas , i don't often see the need to use xmas as a space or time saver when speaking or writing in reference to the holiday.

X has been used from the start of Christianity , it's not a letter X it's the Greek letter Chi which is the same shape. A very common symbol in churches is the Chi/Rho one which begins to spell the name Christ.

The X shape also represents the Cross.

I fully agree about the use of text messaging language in everyday writing. It's lazy and disrespectful to the reader.
Fortunately it's BANNED in Freeones.
